Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE His highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chaired a cabinet meeting on Monday November 11 at which he launched a new policy for protecting women, children, the elderly and people of determination from any type of violence and abuse.
Lt. General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior; and Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs were present at the meeting.
This new information about Family protection law was tweeted by the UAE Government. They stated that the policy will help families maintain strong bonds, assimilate roles between domestic violence institutions and spread the words of how to ensure the good dynamics in a family.
This new policy includes mechanisms for protection and intervention, development of legislation and laws, as well as prevention and raising community awareness about domestic violence. It will also establish standards for the training of staff working in the field as well as studies, research and statistics.
Other initiatives were introducing university degrees related to family protection, establishing a new system for reporting and receiving complaints, ensuring staff are well-trained, and backed up by studies and research.
